About the Workshop

Treating eating disorders requires more than just meal plans. Dietitians play a vital role in supporting clients through recovery, not only by providing nutritional guidance but also by recognizing disordered eating behaviors early and applying compassionate, non-diet interventions.

In this practical, skill-building workshop, registered dietitian Tala Abdallah will walk participants through the core competencies needed to confidently support individuals struggling with eating disorders (EDs) and disordered eating. The session will focus on effective screening, early assessment, and therapeutic techniques that strengthen the client-dietitian relationship and promote a healthier approach to food and body image.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize signs and symptoms of eating disorders and disordered eating in clinical and community settings.

  • Know when and how to refer clients to specialized ED care.

  • Apply screening and assessment tools to identify harmful behaviors during nutrition counseling.

  • Use non-diet, client-centered interventions to support recovery and promote intuitive eating.

  • Understand how dietitians can collaborate within multidisciplinary teams for holistic ED treatment.
